Okay, we have to talk about Jekyll Island. Because honestly? We’re a little obsessed. We’ve been lucky enough to photograph in some truly spectacular places — from downtown Atlanta rooftops to the DC cherry blossom — but there was something about Jekyll that hit different when we pulled onto that causeway.
Maybe it’s the live oaks. Maybe it’s the light. Maybe it’s the fact that you can go from a mossy, golden-hour forest to barefoot-on-the-beach in about ten minutes. Whatever it is, we are HERE for it — and we think you should be too.
This session is a perfect example of what makes Jekyll so special for engagement photography. We started in the historic district, under those legendary live oaks that drip with Spanish moss and practically glow at golden hour. Then we chased the last light down to the beach, where this couple kicked off their shoes and completely let loose. Two totally different looks, two totally different vibes — all in one evening. That’s the Jekyll Island magic.

Jekyll Island isn’t just a backdrop. It’s a whole mood.

location one – The Oak Canopy
We’re not being dramatic. The live oak allées in Jekyll’s historic district are genuinely unlike anything else in Georgia. Some of those trees are over 300 years old, and when the afternoon sun filters through the Spanish moss at about 5:30 PM, the whole park turns into this warm, glowing tunnel of golden light. We have photographed a lot of things. That light does not get old.
This is where we always love to start a Jekyll session. The setting is romantic and a little lush — which means it pairs beautifully with a floral dress, a navy blazer, anything with texture and color. It’s also the perfect warm-up spot for couples who feel a little camera-shy at first. There’s something about walking hand-in-hand through those trees that relaxes everyone instantly. By the time we’re laughing and goofing off in the moss, you’ve forgotten there’s a camera pointed at you at all.

VANIA & MARTINE’S PRO TIP
We recommend arriving at the oak canopy about 90 minutes before sunset. The light is soft and directional without being harsh — you won’t be squinting, and everything just glows. Then the walk over to the beach becomes your natural transition (and your outfit change break, if you’re going for two looks!).
Location Two – The Beach
Here’s the thing about Jekyll’s beach at sunset: the sky does things we can’t fully explain. That pink-and-amber dusk hour, when the palms are silhouetted against the gradient and the tidal flat is reflecting everything back at you — that’s the kind of light that makes us want to photograph forever. No filter. No tricks. Just Georgia coast magic.

And when Anna + Hank hit that beach? They dipped each other dramatically and laughed about it. It brought out the best, most natural version of them — which is exactly what we’re always after. The beach is wide, uncrowded (thank you, barrier island preservation laws), and the dunes frame everything so beautifully you’d think it was art directed. Spoiler: it kind of is — by nature itself.

White linen, off-the-shoulder dresses, bare feet in wet sand — this is the vibe we’re always chasing here, and Jekyll delivered it like nowhere else.

Planning a Wedding on Jekyll Island? Let’s Talk.
Jekyll Island is genuinely one of the most stunning wedding destinations in the Southeast, and it’s still a bit of an insider secret compared to places like Savannah or Charleston. The Jekyll Island Club — a gorgeous National Historic Landmark resort from the Gilded Age — offers ceremony spaces that drip with history and charm. The beach venues are spacious and naturally beautiful. And the island itself makes guests feel like they’ve genuinely escaped somewhere special.
For couples getting married on Jekyll, booking an engagement session on the island is something we always encourage. Not just because you’ll have images you’ll love forever — but because by the time your wedding day arrives, you’ll already feel completely at ease in front of our cameras. You’ll know the light. You’ll know the spots. You’ll walk into your wedding day like you own the place. Because you kind of will.
We photograph weddings and engagement sessions all over Georgia and beyond — Atlanta is home base, but we genuinely love any excuse to head down to the coast. Fall and spring are magical on Jekyll: mild temperatures, incredible light, and a quieter island than the summer rush. October through early December? Chef’s kiss.
If you’re planning a wedding or engagement session on Jekyll Island, we would absolutely love to be your photographers. Drop us a line — we’ll bring the cameras and the excitement, and Jekyll will handle the rest.
