There are some locations that feel made for love stories — places where the light falls just right, where the earth opens up into something vast and green and a little wild. Cloudland Canyon State Park in Rising Fawn, Georgia is one of those places. And when this couple arrived with their radiant smiles and easy, unguarded affection for one another, we knew the day was going to be something special
Cherokee Falls — Magic in the Mist
No Cloudland Canyon session would be complete without Cherokee Falls, and this one did not disappoint. The falls cascade dramatically into a misty pool surrounded by mossy boulders and ancient walls of stone — a scene that feels almost mythological. We made our way to the base and let the roar of the water and the cool spray set the mood. For the waterfall portion, the couple changed into a flowing white off-shoulder dress and a warm olive shirt — a combination that photographed beautifully against the dark, moody rock face. Standing ankle-deep in the stream with the falls thundering behind them, there was this incredible moment of pure joy — her head thrown back laughing, him leaning in close. That frame is one of our favorites from the entire day. The light near the falls has a quality all its own — soft, diffused, almost silver. Itwraps around faces in the most flattering way, and the natural bokeh of rushing water in the background creates an intimacy that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.
The Overlook — Views That Take Your Breath Away
As we made our way toward the canyon overlook, the landscape opened up dramatically — rolling ridgelines stretching to the horizon, forested walls dropping hundreds of feet below, a gnarled pine reaching across a cloud-streaked sky. We spent time here sitting on the stone ledge, taking in the view together, utterly unhurried. Shots like these are a reminder that engagement sessions aren’t just about pretty portraits — they’re about capturing a couple in a moment of life. The quiet conversations, the gentle hand-holding, the way they look at each other when they think no one’s watching. That’s the gold.
