Engagement Sessions | Love & Story
Getting married? An engagement session is a great way to get to know us before the big day. Even if you don’t think you need one, we still recommend hanging out with us, taking some fun pics and getting comfortable with us and the way that we shoot.
Why Bother With One
Most couples have never been professionally photographed together before their wedding day. An engagement session fixes that. You find out how we work, we find out how you two are with each other, and by the wedding you’re not being photographed by strangers. It’s the single best thing you can do to feel relaxed in your wedding photos.
Around Atlanta
Piedmont Park with a picnic blanket and a bottle of something cold. The bright pink arches at Ponce City Market. A white perforated wall in Midtown and a pair of sunglasses. The Millennium Gate, Cator Woolford Gardens, Winn Park at the hour when the shadows go long. A rooftop with the skyline behind you and champagne going everywhere.
Mountains, Water, and Open Fields
Cherokee Falls at Cloudland Canyon. The overlook at Amicalola Falls Lodge at sunset. Running along wet sand on Jekyll Island as the moon comes up. A wildflower field at Prospect Farms, sunflowers at Big Hart Farm, the reflecting pool at Berry College. If you’re willing to drive an hour, Georgia opens right up.
At Home
Not everyone wants a location. Some of our favorite sessions have happened in a living room with the dogs refusing to sit still and coffee going cold. If the idea of posing in a park makes you tense, this is usually the answer — and there are more ideas like it here.
Bring Something
The sessions that feel most like the couple usually have something in them. A dog. A horse. A bottle to open at sunset. A book you’re both reading. Props give you something to do, and doing something together is what stops photos looking posed.
What to Wear
The question everybody asks, so we wrote it down properly: what to wear for your engagement session, with outfit ideas for city, outdoor and dressier settings. Short version — wear something you already feel good in, and don’t buy anything new the week before.
When to Do It
Anywhere from a year to a couple of months out. Early enough to use the photos for save-the-dates, late enough that the ring is on. Golden hour, almost always.
