Naylor Hall is a historic home on Canton Street in downtown Roswell, about half an hour north of Atlanta. It has white columns, a wide front lawn and a front porch that looks out over all of it. We’ve photographed weddings here over the years, and it’s one of those venues where the whole day can happen in one place.

Couples get ready upstairs and get married out front. Nobody has to get in a car until the send-off.

Getting ready upstairs

The rooms upstairs are where couples get ready, and they have big windows with lots of natural light. Details and bridal portraits look good in there without any flash.

Downstairs on the main level there’s a gold settee by the big windows that we love for bridal portraits. Sit on it, lean back on it, lift your veil and look out the window. It works every time.

Ceremonies on the front lawn

The ceremony sits on the front lawn facing the house, so every photo of your vows has the columns and the front steps behind you. Niccole and Brian said their vows at the foot of the steps, and the steps gave us a little height for the first kiss.

The lawn is big enough for a full aisle with room to spare. Niccole even arrived in a vintage pink Chevy that pulled right up behind the last row.

If it rains

There’s a tent set up on the side of the house all the time, so the rain plan is already standing. If the forecast turns, the ceremony moves under the tent and nobody is scrambling to put one up that morning.

Portraits around the house and on Canton Street

You can do portraits anywhere on the grounds. The front steps, the porch, the lawn and the big trees around the house all work, and they’re all a short walk from each other.

Canton Street is right there too. It’s the heart of downtown Roswell, with shops and restaurants along it, and a short walk out gives you something different from the house.

The best light on the lawn comes about an hour before sunset. If you can, save your couple portraits for then and build the rest of the day around it.

The porch and the reception

The front porch is a great spot for a first dance, with your guests watching from the lawn below. That’s what Niccole and Brian did, and it was one of our favorite moments of their day. After that the party moves inside.

The send-off

The front steps make an easy send-off. Guests line both sides and you come down through the middle with the house lit up behind you.
