Your wedding party is made up of the people who’ve been there through it all — your friends, your family, your chosen besties standing beside you as you start this new chapter together. Photographing them is honestly one of our favorite parts of the day. Here are the ways we love to capture the group who means the most to you.
The Full Group Portrait
This is the photo you’ll frame, and the one your parents will ask for. We find even, flattering light — the ivy courtyard at Summerour Studio, an open lawn, the front of a beautiful old barn — and we move quickly so nobody’s standing around. Whether your party is four people or fourteen, we’ll tell you exactly where to go, which means more time left over for portraits of just the two of you.
Bridesmaids and Groomsmen
There’s something so joyful about these smaller groups. Your bridesmaids gathered close with their bouquets, laughing at something nobody else heard. Your groomsmen crowding in around him, giving him grief right up until the ceremony. These come together naturally once the big group shot is done, and they’re always some of our favorites — right alongside the bridal portraits and groom portraits from that same hour.
The Unplanned Moments
Not every photo needs a pose, and honestly these are the ones couples tell us they love most. The cheering when you turn around. Someone’s tie being fixed badly. Your groomsmen leaping across an autumn lawn in North Georgia because somebody dared them to. We’re watching for these the whole time we’re setting up the formals, so you get both.
Something a Little Different
Want your wedding party photos to feel completely unlike anyone else’s? We’re always up for it. We’ve lit groomsmen with cigars against a dramatic dark background, built a composite portrait that looks like a moonlit forest, and photographed an entire wedding party in dinosaur costumes at Fernbank. These take a bit more planning, so just tell us early and we’ll build the time in.
A Quick Word on Timing
Wedding party photos usually happen after getting ready and before the ceremony, or in that golden window before the reception kicks off.
