“Small wedding, big day!”
Daphne + Darrius had a micro wedding at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse, right on the square in Decatur. Just their closest family and friends, a guitarist in the corner and one of the prettiest rooms in metro Atlanta.
The courthouse was built in 1918 and it’s on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the DeKalb History Center runs it, and the old courtroom is all marble walls, terrazzo floors and tall arched windows. It’s perfect for a smaller wedding, and it photographs beautifully.
The Details
Daphne’s gown was covered in beading from top to bottom, so of course we had to hang it on the big wooden front doors under the columns.
Getting Ready
Daphne got ready in the bridal suite upstairs, finishing up by the window before heading down to the courtroom.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was in the courtroom, with a guitarist playing while guests found their seats. Darrius waited up front with the officiant, and Daphne walked in carrying a bouquet of white roses. It was simple and sweet, and everyone in the room was right there with them.
Portraits Around the Courthouse
After the ceremony we took these two all over the building. The arched windows inside, the marble stairwell from above, the stone balcony out front and the front steps under the columns. There are so many spots to choose from without ever leaving the square.
Planning a Micro Wedding at the Courthouse
If you want a small wedding with a big backdrop, this is a great spot. Rentals include the courtroom, a lobby, a bridal suite and a groom’s room, so you don’t have to go anywhere else to get ready.
