“It seemed like a perfect combination of something simple and classic, yet airy and garden-y.”
That’s how Lori describes Ivy Hall, and it’s exactly why she and Paul chose it. They loved the old mill equipment and history, the trees and the river, and the deck looking out over Vickery Creek. Lori says it captured both of them: Paul’s love of history and adventure, and her love of plants, water and the outdoors.
Ivy Hall is in the old mill building at Roswell Mill, which was rebuilt in 1882 after the original was destroyed in the Civil War. It has wood beams, big windows and a huge deck right over the creek, and the covered bridge is just a short walk away.
A Little Adventure in Every Detail
Paul loves adventure, so the whole day had a travel theme. There was a map seating chart that said find your coordinates and discover your destination, vintage suitcases, globes and little compass tags at every place setting. Lori’s colors were dusty blue and peach, and her Dolce Vita heels had pearls across the front.

Getting Ready
Lori’s mom helped her into her gown, lacing up the back and buttoning every last button, and then her bridesmaids got to see her. Paul and his groomsmen got ready in black tuxes, and they were a very relaxed bunch.

Letters Before the Ceremony
Instead of a first look, Lori + Paul traded letters on either side of a wall, no peeking. We love when couples do this, and there were big smiles on both sides.

The Ceremony on the Deck
The ceremony was out on the deck overlooking Vickery Creek, under a wooden arch draped in sage fabric and covered in flowers from Good Southern Blooms. Lori’s dad walked her down the aisle, and more than a few people in the front row needed a tissue.

Portraits Around the Mill
After the ceremony we took everyone over to the covered bridge, and then Lori + Paul went down to the falls for a few portraits. Just to note, the area in front of the falls has since been closed off.

The Reception
Inside, the room was all wood beams, draped fabric and string lights, with dusty blue runners down the tables. Instead of a big cake there was a tower of Crumbl cookies, and the signature drinks were named after their dog and cat. DJ Chino kept the dance floor full all night, and a live painter, Dianne McAlexander, captured the whole thing on canvas.

A Champagne Send-Off
At the end of the night we snuck out for a few portraits under the lamp posts on the mill walkway, and then everyone lined up with light-up wands while Lori + Paul sprayed champagne on their way out.

Advice from Lori + Paul
“Even when something related to wedding planning is incredibly stressful and it feels like the end of the world, take a moment to remember why you’re going through the process. The details don’t matter as much as marrying your best friend.”
Lori + Paul, thank you for letting us be part of your day!
