“I chose my venue because of all the greenery and flowers around the venue as well as the space inside. It has a good space for dancing.”
That’s how Helen described picking the Payne-Corley House in Duluth, and she was right on both counts. The gardens were in full bloom, and by the end of the night the dance floor was packed.
Helen + Benny’s day had three parts: a tea ceremony with their families in the morning, a Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, and wedding portraits and a reception at the Payne-Corley House. We’ve been to Payne-Corley before, and you can see another Payne-Corley House wedding here.
The Tea Ceremony
The morning started at home. Helen wore red and Benny wore a red tie, and they knelt to serve tea to their parents and grandparents, who gave them gifts and blessings in return. We snuck outside for a few photos of the two of them in the garden before everyone changed.

Getting Ready
Helen’s bridesmaids got ready with her in matching shirts, and Beauty Asylum did her hair and makeup. Her gown was Essense of Australia from Formally Yours, and we hung it in the trees outside for a few photos before she put it on at Holy Cross. The colors for the day were navy and light blue.

The First Look
Benny waited on the garden path outside Holy Cross, and his reaction when he turned around says it all.

The Mass at Holy Cross
The ceremony was a Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with flower garlands draped around the altar and cross. Helen’s father walked her down the aisle, and afterward their guests cheered them out the door.

The Payne-Corley House
Back at the Payne-Corley House, we took wedding portraits all over the gardens and the lawn. The girls wore light blue from Azazie, and the guys wore navy.

The Reception
Inside, the tables were set with blue hydrangea, white roses and candles from Fuji Floral Design and Abby’s at the Cottage. The cake from Bohemian Bakery was four white tiers with blush and blue flowers. And just like Helen said, there was plenty of room for dancing. DJ Omar from Spectrum Entertainment kept everyone on the floor.

Night Portraits in the Rain
It started raining toward the end of the night, and Helen + Benny were up for heading outside with us anyway. We put a light behind them so every raindrop showed up, added a little fog, and used the lights hanging in the trees. A rainy wedding night can give you some of the most dramatic photos of the day, and these night portraits in the rain are some of our favorites. Then everyone lined up on the porch with sparklers to send them off.

Helen + Benny, thank you for letting us be part of your day. Congratulations!
